We were flying toward Mzima Springs, cutting across the dry expanse of Amboseli when the landscape shifted. Out of the dust, a striking field of green came into view, almost unreal against the surrounding terrain.

I leaned toward the pilot and pointed it out, half-joking that it would be perfect if elephants were there. Seconds later, we saw them. He banked the aircraft, steady and precise, giving me just enough time. One pass, one frame — and the moment was captured.

What draws me to scenes like this is the perspective. From above, the chaos of the natural world settles into something more legible — patterns, pathways, relationships. The elephant becomes both part of the landscape and a force shaping it. Those paths cutting through the green aren’t just lines; they are memory, movement, survival, instinct.

I think that’s what this image means to me. It’s not just about the subject, but about scale — how small and how significant something can be at the same time.

For me, photographing landscapes and wildlife has slowly shifted from seeking out beauty to trying to understand presence. How things exist within their environment, how they endure change, and how fragile that balance really is.

There wasn’t a single defining moment that changed this perspective, but rather a gradual realization over time. Spending long periods in these environments, you begin to notice what’s missing just as much as what’s there. Water that once flowed differently. Areas that no longer hold life the same way. The silence where there should be more.

What keeps me hopeful is that these moments still exist. That even within changing landscapes, there are still pockets of strength, of beauty, of life continuing in its own rhythm.

And sometimes, if you’re paying attention, everything comes together for just long enough to remind you why it matters.
