Still waters create mirrored reflections in Sitka Sound off of Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska where trees range from 200-700 years old. Close to 70 percent of the old growth remains protected in reserves in the Tongass National Forest.

Melissa Farlow is a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer who worked primarily in North and South America on over 20 National Geographic projects. Her appreciation of the natural world was enhanced by every story as well as the desire to help preserve its beauty.
