Ron Magill. Safe from the Storm.
These flamingos lived at Zoo Miami (then called Miami Metrozoo) in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew destroyed the zoo. It was always part of the protocol to capture the flock in the front lake of the zoo whenever there was a hurricane warning issued, and transport them to the public restroom which was used as a bunker to protect them. It was perfect as it had no windows, a tile floor that was easy to clean! It was a move that most certainly saved their lives and some of those flamingos are still alive today at the zoo!
