Water Cress (Nasturtium sp) flowers and other wildflowers, New York.

But why, you may ask, should we look for beauty in times of the great pain and upheaval now facing Ukraine? Let us quote this from the 9/9/2018 New York Times:

Beauty is another “ritual of life,” right up there with screaming in the streets. One doesn’t replace the other, but we need both, even in the worst and darkest times. The artist Zoe Leonard remembered confessing to David Wojnarowicz her anxiety that her aerial photographs of clouds didn’t reflect grim political reality. Wojnarowicz said to her: “Zoe, these are so beautiful, and that’s what we’re fighting for. We’re being angry and complaining because we have to, but where we want to go is back to beauty. If you let go of that, we don’t have anywhere to go.”

Yva Momatiuk and John Eastcott, a wife and husband team, are internationally published photographers of nature. Nomadic for years before the birth of their daughter Tara, whose arrival induced them to hang their hats in the Catskills with a sweeping view of old river valleys, they spend most of the year following animals, ever-changing landscapes, and moving with the light and the seasons while exploring the color, rhythm and wild essence of remote places.
